USATF Foundation Stephen A. Schwarzman Grantee Leonard Korir Inspires Kokopelli Racing Team Ahead of State Meet

PITTSBURGH –

Stephen A. Schwarzman Grantee and Olympian Leonard Korir visited the Kokopelli Racing Team, a USATF Foundation Youth Club Grant recipient, to inspire young athletes as they prepared for their upcoming state meet. The visit took place the Saturday before the Colorado High School State Cross Country Championship and included a team distance run, breakfast, and motivational Q&A session.

Korir joined the team for a 9-mile run along Gold Camp Road, a historic dirt road once used to transport gold to Colorado Springs during the gold rush era. Following the run, the team enjoyed a pancake breakfast where Korir shared training advice, racing strategies, and entertaining anecdotes from his career. During the Q&A, the athletes had the chance to ask questions and learn about the dedication required to excel in track and field.

“Lenny Korir gave our runners the chance to dream and to feel that anything is possible if you work hard and believe,” said Kokopelli Racing Team coach Lisa Rainsberger.

The Foundation extends its gratitude to Leonard Korir for making a lasting impact on Kokopelli’s young athletes as they continue their athletic journeys.
