06 Aug USATF Foundation announces $30,000 gift to Adopt An Athlete program
INDIANAPOLIS – Through the generosity of a private donor, a gift of $30,000 has been made to the USA Track & Field Foundation’s Adopt An Athlete program (www.usatffoundation.org/elite/adopt.aspx), announced Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld today. This gift will be used specifically to support a hurdler as he or she prepares for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
“It’s our hope this gift inspires others to adopt athletes in other events as well,” noted Jackovic. “The Foundation is committed to helping send the best possible team to the Rio Games.”
By adopting an athlete, a donor will share in the Olympic journey by giving an elite athlete the resources necessary to be competitive on the grandest of all competitive stages, the Olympic Games. The Adopt An Athlete program also gives donors the flexibility to select the particular event in which they choose to sponsor an athlete.
Contributions to Adopt An Athlete will help cover the following expenses directly associated with Olympic training: (1) Top-level coaching; (2) Domestic & international competitions; (3) Training expenses (room & board); (4) Health insurance, and (5) Modern equipment & facilities.
The Foundation Elite Athlete Grant Program contributes to the pursuit of world-class performances by American post-collegiate track and field athletes. Athletes must meet minimum performance and financial need standards to be eligible.
