02 Oct USATF Foundation and Foundation Grantee, Bobby Curtis bring Run With US! to the 4-H Southern Region Teen Leadership Conference
CROSSVILLE, TN – The USA Track & Field Foundation, in partnership with 4-H, presented the Run With US! program to over 350 attendees at the 4-H Southern Region Teen Leadership Conference this past weekend, announced USATF Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld. The event featured a presentation from Run With US! athlete-mentor, professional marathon runner and USATF Foundation grantee, Bobby Curtis.
The event took place on Saturday, September 26 at the Clyde M. York Center and expanded the existing USATF Foundation Run With US! program, targeting high school-aged teens from Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, and Georgia. Teens from these southern states traveled to attend this popular four-day conference to learn leadership skills that will empower and inspire them to make positive changes within their communities.
Curtis presented information to the group about the importance of living a healthy life and making positive choices. Speaking from personal experience, he specifically touched on what running means to him, setting goals, healthy eating, building friendships and living a purposeful life. Curtis’ stories detailing his experience in international racing especially struck a chord with the captivated group. The event concluded with a 4K Fun Run that was led by Curtis and allowed the teens to interact and run alongside their new mentor.
“Having Bobby Curtis come to 4-H SRTLC provided our teens with inspiration to become more physically active. I witnessed teens running in the 4K that might not otherwise have seen the benefit in running as a form of physical activity,” stated Extension Specialist for 4-H Youth Development, Justin Crowe.
