USA Track & Field Foundation announces seven Distance Training Centers to participate in Plus3 Grant Program

INDIANAPOLIS –The USA Track & Field Foundation, in partnership with Plus3 has awarded seven long distance running clubs the opportunity to participate in the 2015 Distance Training Grant Program, Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld announced today.

Financial support for the program is provided by the USATF Foundation while Plus3 provides a platform for running fans and enthusiasts to log healthy activities on the website and phone application.  For every activity logged, a monetary donation goes to one of the seven USA Distance Centers.  To date, Plus3 has facilitated over $1.2 million in donations for worthwhile charities.

Each club was awarded the opportunity to participate in the program because of the impact they have shown in their local running community.  Participants in these clubs vigorously train together on a daily basis in an effort to compete on national and international levels–while proudly representing the USA.

While the athletes enter their exercise, the bulk of the funds raised for each club is generated by the exercise of their fans.  Plus3 allows the clubs to connect with their supporters to encourage them to lead healthy lives that in turn power the donations.

In 2014, five of these clubs earned grant awards ranging between $3800 and $6000 each.  Those five clubs were the New Jersey * New York Track Club, Team USA Minnesota, Run Furman Elite, Rogue Athletic Club, and ZAP Fitness.

“At Plus3 we want to build a healthier nation, and by turning every exercise activity into a donation, we encourage folks to be well by doing good,” said Joe Fabris, co-founder of Plus3 and a former sub 4 miler. “And with the USA Track and Field Foundation and the USA Distance Centers, we have elite athletes and fans motivating each other.”

This year the USATF Foundation will invite all five clubs to participate in the grant program again as well as two new additions Brooks Beasts and The American Distance Project.

The USATF Foundation enables fans and supporters of distance running to join the movement inspired by these dedicated athletes to get active and stay healthy.  Fans, supporters, and any member of the public who would like to turn their exercise into money for a USA Distance Center can log onto www.plus3network.com/usatffoundation – and choose a center to support.  Thanks to the USA Track & Field Foundation, it’s all free.
