INDIANAPOLIS – Stephanie Brown Trafton, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games discus throw gold medalist and two-time USA National Champion (2011, 2009), has set a new American record at the Maui Throwdown Friday evening, May 4, 2012, in Maui, HI, Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld announced today.
“Having a Foundation grantee set an American record is a dream come true and an inspiration for all grantees,” noted Jackovic. “This performance immediately places her in a great position to defend her Olympic crown won in 2008.”
Stephanie, a two-time elite athlete grant recipient (2007/2008), threw the discus 67.74 meters, bettering the American record of 67.67 meters set by Suzy Powell in 2007. Trafton’s previous PR was 66.21 meters, set in 2009.
The Foundation Elite Athlete Grant Program contributes to the pursuit of world-class performances by American post-collegiate track and field athletes. Athletes must meet minimum performance and financial need standards to be eligible.
