18 Mar USATF Foundation announces 9 inaugural Stephen A. Schwarzman Grant recipients
INDIANAPOLIS – The USA Track & Field Foundation has named the 9 inaugural Stephen A. Schwarzman elite grant recipients, announced Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld today.
Schwarzman, the Chairman, CEO and co-founder of Blackstone, recently made a major gift of $500,000 to the USATF Foundation in support of world-class athletes in track and field that are likely medal contenders at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
“I congratulate this deserving group of grantees and applaud their exceptional drive and dedication,” said Schwarzman. “It is an honor to support such a talented group of men and women and I hope that with the USATF Foundation’s help and their own determination, we can help them achieve their Olympic ambitions.”
The 9 outstanding men and women track & field athletes receiving $7000 grants include:
- Chelsea Hayes (long Jump) – 2012 Olympian
- Marshevet Hooker (100 meters) – 2008 Olympian & 2011 World Outdoor 4x100m Gold Medalist
- Kylie Hutson (pole vault) – 2011 USA Outdoor Champion
- Erica McClain (triple jump) – 2008 Olympian & 2005 World Championships Team Member
- Alysia Montano (800 meters) – 2012 Olympic Finalist, 2010 World Indoor Bronze Medalist
- Manteo Mitchell (400 meters) – 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist (4x400m Relay)
- Dwight Phillips (long jump) – 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist, 4-Time World Outdoor Championships Gold Medalist
- Jeffrey Porter (110 meter hurdles) – 2012 Olympian
- Morgan Uceny (800/1500 meters) – 2012 Olympic Finalist
The Foundation Elite Athlete Grant Program contributes to the pursuit of world-class performances by American post-collegiate track and field athletes. Athletes must meet minimum performance and financial need standards to be eligible.
