12 Jun A Good Day for High Jumper Nieto
Amid the claps, sweat and tears at the Adidas Grand Prix on Saturday in New York was a major victory for the high jumper Jamie Nieto.
Nieto cleared 2.31 meters, or just a hair under 7 feet 7 inches.
His performance tied him for third place with Barry Trevor of the Bahamas. The event was won by the American Jesse Williams and Great Britain’s Robbie Grabarz was second. But Nieto’s effort put him into the Olympic “A” standard. The “A” standard for men’s high jump is 2.31 meters and the “B” standard is 2.28 meters, according to U.S.A. Track and Field.
