In Jamaal's words:

"Within the past year, with the funding I received, I was able to get the proper treatment needed to go on and win my first U.S Championship. I am very thankful for the USATF Foundation program for helping me achieve one of my goals."

I am the son of Deborah Torrance-Robinson, born and raised in Orlando, FL. I went to St. Augustine's College where I trained under the great George Williams, the 2004 Olympic Head Coach and attained a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, I made my first USA Track & Field Championship Final, finishing in 5th place and went on to make the Pan American Team going to Brazil and the 2007 World Team as an alternate in the 4X400 Meter Relay.

As an athlete, my progression over the past few years has been up and down, but I continue to drive myself to achieve more. I think my biggest problem is that no matter what I do, I always want more! Running these past few years as an elite athlete has been a wonderful experience. I've seen so many countries and have traveled around the world, but I don't think it could have been possible without grants and the USATF Foundation to help athletes who don't have the big company contracts to help with training and treatment, that we, as up-and-coming elite athletes, need to stay healthy and compete to our full potential.

Within the past year, with the funding I received, I was able to get the proper treatment needed to go on and win my first U.S Championship. I am very thankful for the USATF Foundation program for helping me achieve one of my goals.

US Jamaal Torrance (R) and Jamaica's Edino Steele compete in the men's first round 400m Heat 4 race at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships at the Aspire Dome in the Qatari capital Doha on March 12, 2010.
